Job Description
The opportunity
As a Training Specialist – Cookery, you'll lead engaging, practical, and supportive learning experiences that prepare students for success in study and in the workplace. You will:
Plan and deliver cookery lessons that reflect industry standards and diverse cuisines.
Provide academic and pastoral support that fosters life and work-ready skills.
Design teaching materials, mark assessments, and offer timely feedback.
Collaborate in curriculum design, moderation, and programme development.
Ensure health, safety, and quality standards are upheld across all learning environments.
Desired Skills and Experience
What you'll bring
Culinary qualification: Diploma or Degree in Cookery.
Industry experience: Proven experience in a commercial kitchen.
Knowledge: Strong grasp of food safety (e.g., HACCP), cost control, nutrition, and kitchen management.
Teaching ability: Able to engage learners across a variety of cooking styles and techniques.
Adult teaching quals (or working toward):
NZ Certificate in Adult and Tertiary Teaching (Level 4 or higher)
NZ Certificate in Adult Literacy & Numeracy (Level 5)
Unit Standard 4098 (Assessment of Learning)
Soft skills: Empathy, strong communication, organisational skills, and an engaging tutoring style.
Tech savvy: Confident using digital tools for learning delivery and assessment.
